After four years of baseball back in the Bend, Larry Whiting and the Baseball Project committee members met with council last Monday asking for their help. The diamond was a popular place for kids and adults in the past but for more than a decade, no one used it. There are now three adult groups who use the diamond at night and 65 youth who use it on the weekends as well as travelling youth teams.

What this committee is asking for is to be designated as a committee of council and to get financial help with the baseball diamond.

Whiting said the reason they would like to be a committee of council is so that a member of council is present at all decision making meetings and so that the project directors would be covered by the appropriate insurances.

What the project needs funding for safety issue items such as fencing and infield resurfacing. The would like the scoreboard repaired and playground equipment.

Whiting told council this was taken out four years ago and really needs to be replaced. The project has raised $11,000 plus for this phase and have proposed Trillium grant and municipal funding to fill in the gaps.

For the second phase they would like to see the home run fence line, a warning area at home run fence, a batting cage, moving the outfield lights and hope for the same financial proposals.
